My first attempt at sketching in public spaces. It was a good thing to start with others, some of whom had done this before and others who had not. This provided an appropriate level of support. I found Tomas was engaging, knowledgeable and approachable.

Title or Location: I?fll Stay Here A While
This piece captures a quiet, suspended moment, like time itself has slowed to a gentle pause.A lone figure rests softly on a vast cloud, surrounded by a dreamlike sky. There is no urgency, no destination, just stillness. The world feels distant, muted beneath layers of drifting color. The clouds glow with soft hues of pink, gold, and lavender, creating a sense of warmth and calm, while their scale suggests something much larger than the figure within them. It is a space that feels both co

Title or Location: Orchid tree is blooming
I'm currently traveling in Hong Kong, where it's spring, and the city is alive with blooming orchid trees (Bauhinia blakeana)?Hong Kong's very own national flower. We have these same orchid trees back in Brisbane too, but here they're everywhere, absolutely covered in far more vibrant blossoms. The sight of these lush, flowering trees instantly reminds me of those much larger, majestic ones lining the Brisbane River. It's such a lovely, unexpected connection between the two places. It makes me

Title or Location: At the river?s edge
This painting captures a moment of childhood curiosity. A young girl stands by the river, unable to resist reaching down to touch the water, drawn by the simple wonder of it. I wanted to express that innocent excitement and the feeling of being completely present in nature. The clear water, with stones visible beneath the surface, reflects the calm atmosphere of the scene. My intention was to create such a sense of realism and stillness that viewers might almost hear the gentle sound of

Title or Location: Paddington Nocturne
Paddington Nocturne is my sixth painting, inspired in part by the urban nocturnal landscapes of 19th English painter John Atkinson Grimshaw. My work seeks to evoke a dreamlike realism through the contrast of warm orange light against a background of dark cool colours. It is also a reflection of my childhood connection to this inner Brisbane area where I have many fond memories.

Title or Location: Gromit in heaven
Gromit was a ?foster fail? who helped many other foster dogs on their way to a new life. He demonstrated life could be kind and to try and trust again. His favorite play dates were at Union Reservoir, retrieving tennis balls in the water. The day before Memorial Day in 2018, he started fading fast, a rush to the emergency vet showed the cause, cancer on his heart. He died just after midnight, so it would be impossible for me to forget him. He was 4years old.
